Prevacid InformationPrevacid also generically known as Lansoprazole is a medicine used for the treatment of the production of acid in the body which may lead to the damaging of other digestive organs in the body.
Prevacid Indications Prevacid is indicated for patients for the treatment and prevention of stomach ulcers, erosive esophagitis or the damage of the esophagus due to the overproduction of acid in the stomach. Prevacid is also used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Prevacid may also be used for other purposes aside from the above mentioned conditions.
Prevacid Warnings Prevacid should be administered with care for patients with phenylketonuria as the 15mg and 30 mg of Prevacid contains 2.5mg and 5.1 mg, respectively, of phenylalanine per tablet. Prevacid and Pregnancy Prevacid belongs to the drug categorized in the Pregnancy Category B which means that it is unknown whether drinking Prevacid may cause harm to the pregnant woman or to her unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it is best that you have a talk with your doctor first to weigh the benefits of drinking Prevacid. It is not also known whether the active ingredient of Prevacid has a tendency to be passed through breast milk. Before deciding to breast feed, you should consult with your doctor
Prevacid Intake Guidelines Prevacid should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribed the intake. Each dose must be taken with a full glass of water. Prevacid should be taken prior to a meal. For Prevacid Capsules: If you have difficulty in swallowing the capsules, it can be opened and sprinkled into a teaspoonful of applesauce and heterogeneously mix the applesauce and the mixture. This is to be swallowed immediately. The mixture should be kept long enough but it is to be consumed immediately. The contents of the capsule can also be mixed into cottage cheese, yogurt, strained pears, apple, orange and tomato. However, the mixture should be consumed immediately after. For patients with nasogastric tubes in their system, the Prevacid capsules may be opened and the granules can be mixed with 40 ml of apple juice to be injected through the nasogastric tube in the stomach. The nasogastric tube must be then flushed with more apple juice to flush and wash away the medicine on the nasogastric tube. For Prevacid Solutabs For the soluble Prevacid, the tablet to be taken must be placed on the tongue for the particles to disintegrate from the tablet. Once the tablet has disintegrated into pieces that can easily be swallowed, you then safely swallow the medicine. Prevacid Solutabs are not designed to be swallowed whole or chewed. The tablet must be allowed to disintegrate in the tongue first with or without the aid of water. The Prevacid Solutabs are designed to disintegrate in less than a minute.
Prevacid Dosage Consult your doctor for the proper dosage of administration. Your doctor may base your dosage based on your body weight, on the degree of acidity to be treated, and other factors as well.
Prevacid Overdose The symptoms of Prevacid Overdose are unknown. If symptoms of overdose are suspected, you must immediately seek emergency medical attention.
Prevacid Missed Dose Prevacid must be double dosed. If you miss a dose, take it if its still a long time before the next dose, however, if it is near the next dose, entirely forego that dose and wait for the next one.
Prevacid Side Effects Taking of Prevacid is not known to cause serious side effects. However allergies may occur. Immediately seek medical attention if you experience hives, swelling of lips, mouth and tongue and closing of throat. Other side effects of taking Prevacid include: * Diarrhea * Nausea * Abdominal discomforts * Headache and Dizziness Prevacid Drug Reactions Prevacid may interact with other drugs such as: * Sucralfate - Sucralfate is a drug also used for the treatment of stomach conditions. Taking Sucralfate may reduce the effectivity of Prevacid. The intake of either Sucralfate or Prevacid must be 30 minutes apart to prevent drug interactions. * Ketoconazole, Ampicillin, Digoxin and Iron may decrease their reactions as Prevacid hinders the absorption of these drugs in the stomach. Always tell your doctor of the medicines and drugs you are taking for them to advise proper action.
